Join the PTA
Twelve dollars. No volunteer hours attached, no meetings you have to attend, no fundraising quota. Membership is the number that gives us standing with the district and the board — and it is the cheapest useful thing you will buy this school year.
Georgia PTA partners with Totem for membership. It is mobile-friendly, takes a card, and puts a membership card straight on your phone.
Why bother
Four honest reasons
Who can join
- Parents and guardians
- Grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors
- Teachers and staff
- Anyone who cares about this school, whether or not they have a child in it
It is not a volunteer contract
The single biggest misconception. Joining commits you to nothing beyond the $12. Plenty of members never set foot in the building, and that is completely fine.
Membership is leverage
When we ask the district for a crosswalk, a bus or a budget line, the first question is how many members we have. It is the only number that travels.
You get a vote
Members vote on the budget and elect the board. If you think we are spending money on the wrong things, membership is how you say so with weight.
Perks, since you asked
Spirit Rock booking, early Spring Festival wristbands, the members-only Fun Run pre-sale, and National PTA's discount program.
Last year we finished at 512. Six hundred would be the highest in school history and would put us in the top three units in the county.
Staff membership
100%, three years running
100% staff membership, three years running. The PTA covers the $12 for any staff member who wants it.
Give
Skip the wrapping paper
A direct gift beats a catalog fundraiser roughly four to one, because none of it goes to a middleman. Give once, and we will not ask again this year.
Double it in four minutes
Home Depot, Delta, UPS, Chick-fil-A and Northside Hospital all match employee gifts to 501(c)(3) schools. Ask your HR portal for 'Holly Springs Elementary PTA' — a match doubles your gift for about four minutes of paperwork.
Still on the fence?
Come to a board meeting first. First Tuesday of the month, 5:30pm, media center. No agenda item required, no obligation, and there is usually cake.
