Who we are

We are the parents, guardians, teachers and neighbors who fund the field trips, feed the teachers, run the Fun Run and keep 775 Wildcats supported all year long.

What a PTA actually is

We are not the school, and we are not a booster club. We are an independent 501(c)(3) run by parents and staff, affiliated with Georgia PTA and National PTA, with our own bylaws, our own bank account and our own annual audit.

Practically, that means three things. We raise money and spend it on things the school budget does not cover. We put adults in the building — in the media center, on field trips, at the book fair. And we are the organized voice families use when something needs to change.

How we work

The board proposes a budget in August. Members vote on it in September. From there, every dollar over $500 comes back to the membership for approval, and the books are published monthly whether or not anyone asks to see them.

General meetings are the second Tuesday of September, November, February and April at 6:00pm in the media center. Board meetings are the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm and are open to any member who wants to sit in.

Anyone may attend a board meeting. You do not need to be a member, you do not need to email first, and you do not need a reason.

Working with the school

Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy is led by Ms. Kerri Schmitt, who sits in on our board meetings and tells us plainly when an idea will not work. We fund; the school decides what happens in classrooms. That line is what keeps the relationship healthy.

Two seats nobody votes on. The parliamentarian is appointed by the president and keeps the meetings inside the rules; the principal sits with us as the school’s partner, not as a PTA officer.
